Summer Pipeline Research Initiative:
The Tulane Experience (SPRITE)

Tuesday, May 28, 2002, was orientation day for the CBR's SPRITE 2002 summer research internship for Xavier students. This marks the fourth year of SPRITE, a joint initiative between the CBR, Tulane's interdisciplinary graduate program of Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Xavier University. The program will last for ten-weeks, ending with a research symposium on Friday, August 2, 2002 in the J. Bennett Johnston Health and Environmental Research Building. The intent of SPRITE is to provide a mentored introduction to Tulane's excellent programs of graduate study. This ten-week active learning experience seeks to increase the representation of minorities at the graduate level in the biomedical and bioenvironmental sciences by providing interns with a quality bench research experience in an operating laboratory under the guidance of an established researcher.
